Stupidity in Times of COVID-19
Ten days after Spain had declared a state of emergency, I was called into court to translate for several cases. Not just one, but three cases showed what I can only describe as pure stupidity. Nevertheless, they made my day.
1. Hashish party: two couples decided to disobey the social distancing restriction and have a “hashish party” in an apartment. They could have gotten away with it if they hadn't been so loud. However, they made so much noise, that the neighbors, who were all at home, where everyone should be, alarmed the police. The police arrived expecting to settle a noise disturbance. Instead, they found two couples who were completely high and having a party. They were not only arrested for disobeying the social distancing law but also for the use of drugs and disturbing the peace. This party ended in jail!
2. Now, we are in a state of emergency, no one is on the roads, we are all at home, we just go out for food shopping and to walk our dogs. Police and military are everywhere on the roads to make sure we all stay at home. However, one group thought this would be the ideal time to break into someone’s home! Why? Neighbors, who are obviously all home, saw the attempt and called the police. Even if they would have gotten to their car and drove off, the police are not far and would have stopped them anyway for driving around unnecessarily. It makes no sense to me. At least they could think about how stupid they were while sitting in a prison cell for a while.
3. As mentioned before, the police are everywhere and nearly everyone gets stopped. So, how come one thinks it is okay to drive around without possessing a valid drivers license? We will never know. This guy I translated for, found himself in a random police check and had to pay a lot of money for his mistake. The fine was around 1800€ in total.
Dummheit in Zeiten von Covid-19
Zehn Tage nachdem Spanien den Alarmzustand erklärt hat, wurde ich zu Gericht gerufen, um für verschiedene Fälle zu übersetzen. Nicht einer, sondern gleich drei Fälle zeigten auf, was man nur als pure Dummheit beschreiben kann. Nichts desto trotzt, erhellten sie meinen Tag!
1. Haschisch-Party: zwei Paare entschieden sich dazu sich der auferlegten räumlichen Trennung zu widersetzen und zusammen eine „Haschisch-Party“ in einer Wohnung zu feiern. Hätte vielleicht auch keiner gemerkt, wenn sie nicht so laut gewesen wären. Sie waren jedoch so laut, dass die Nachbarn, die natürlich alle zu Hause waren, wie es vorgeschrieben ist, die Polizei riefen. Die Polizei, die dachte für Ruhe sorgen zu müssen, fand zwei Paare auf, die komplett high waren und eine Party feierten. Sie wurden nicht nur wegen Nichteinhalten des Gesetzes über räumliche Trennung sondern auch wegen Drogenkonsum und Unruhestiftung verhaftet. Diese Party endete im Knast!
2. Nun, wir befinden uns im Alarmzustand, keiner ist auf den Straßen, wir sind alle zu Hause und gehen nur zum Einkaufen oder Gassigehen raus. Polizei und Militär sind überall auf den Straßen um sicherzustellen, dass wir uns alle an die Regeln halten. Nichts desto trotz, glaubte eine Gruppe es wäre die ideale Zeit einen Einbruch zu begehen! Warum? Nachbarn, die natürlich alle zu Hause sind, haben den Einbruchsversuch gesehen und die Polizei gerufen. Auch wenn die Einbrecher es geschafft hätten weg zu fahren, mit den ganzen Polizeikontrollen wären sie nicht weit gekommen. Sie wären so oder so wegen unrechtmäßigen Fahren angehalten worden. Ich sehe die Logik nicht. Zumindest konnten sie über ihren Hinriss in einer Zelle eine Weile nachdenken.
3. Wie vorab schon einmal erwähnt, ist die Polizei überall und fast jeder wird im Auto angehalten. Also, wie kommt jemand auf den irrwitzigen Gedanken ohne gültigen Führerschein Auto zu fahren? Das werden wir wohl nie erfahren. Dieser Typ, für den ich übersetze, gerat in eine spontane Polizeikontrolle und musste viel Geld für seinen Fehler bezahlen. Die Geldstrafe belief sich auf rund 1800 €!
Estupideces en tiempos de Covid-19
Diez días tras España declarar el estado de alarma, me llamaron al juzgado para traducir en varios casos. No meramente un caso, sino tres, demostraron a lo que solamente se puede llamar estupideces. No obstante, me alegraron el día.
1. Fiesta hachís: dos parejas decidieron desobedecer la ley sobre la distancia social y celebraron una fiesta de hachís en un apartamento. Quizás nadie lo hubiera detectado, si hubiera sido por el ruido. Hicieron tanto ruido que los vecinos, que estaban todos en casa, obedeciendo la ley, alarmaron a la policía. La policía llegó pensando tener que gestionar una molestia por ruido pero se encontraron a dos parejas drogadas festejando. No solamente fueron detenidos por desobedecer la ley sobre distancia social, pero también por el consumo de drogas y alterar el orden. ¡Esta fiesta terminó en el calabozo!
2. Bueno, nos encontramos en estado de alarma, nadie está en las calles, estamos todos en casa y solo salimos para hacer la compra o sacar al perro. La policía y los militares están por todos los lados para asegurar que seguimos las restricciones del estado de alarma. No obstante, un grupo tenía la gran idea de intentar a robar una casa. ¿Porqué? Los vecinos, que naturalmente se encuentran todos en casa, vieron el intento de robo y llamaron a la policía. Aún si los ladrones hubieran podido huir en coche, no hubieran llegado muy lejos con todos los controles policiales. Hubieran sido parados por circular en coche. No veo la lógica. Al menos podían pensar sobre su estupidez durante un tiempo en el calabozo.
3. Como ya mencioné antes, la policía está en todas partes y paran a casi todo el mundo. Así que, ¿cómo es posible que alguien piense que sería buena idea conducir un coche sin tener un permiso vigente? No lo sabremos nunca. Este chico, al cual traduje, tenía que pagar caro por su fallo. ¡La multa total ascendió a unos 1800 €!
